Berastagi Situated in the Karo highlands Berastagi has a pleasantly cool climate. If you are feeling active our guide will accompany you on a 3 hour trek to the top of Sibayak volcano from where you can take in stunning views of the surrounding countryside. After a 2 hour trek to the base you can relax in the soothing hot springs. We recommend a day to spend looking around the famous local fruit and flower markets The local markets are swarming with activity and scenes from traditional Karo life. You could also enjoy a horse ride or explore the local Batak Karo villages and traditional houses. Lake Toba Lake Toba is one of Sumatra main attractions and among the most idyllic spots in Southeast Asia. The lake is among the deepest crater lakes in the world. It rests in the crater of one of Sumatra 's many volcanoes. The 650 square mile lake is almost 1500 feet deep. Beaches are lined with pine trees. The climate is cool and dry and steep, scenic mountain slopes surround the lake. Samosir Island is the lake's real attraction. Samosir Island is the ancestral home of Sumatra's Toba Batak people. Batak culture, arts and crafts in themselves are an attraction for the region. Samosir Island also provides some excellent trails and paths for trekking and day hikes or you can take a relaxing boat trip around the island. Swimming is another popular option. |
